I'm Not Ok...

.

September 13, 2025 | Read online

But it’s all gonna be alright.

I wrote a post on Linkedin this week that struck a cord so I thought I would continue the conversation here because I think it’s important and it’s obvious more than a few people feel the same way I do.

Take a minute to read the Linkedin post and then come back to the newsletter.

Everyone and everything feels really heavy right now. Most of the comments and DMs I got from that post were people struggling to even put what they were feeling into words.

There’s this overwhelming feeling of helplessness.

As I sit here writing this newsletter my 14-year-old daughter walked into my room and asked me if I knew how much carbon emissions were produced by a single ChatGPT search and the impact that was having on the environment.

I told her I knew it was about 10x more than a Google search and was definitely not good for the environment but then tried to justify it by saying that AI is also being used to solve major climate issues.

This just reinforced my feeling of helplessness, especially related to AI. I feel that by using it I’m part of the problem but if I don’t use it I’ll get left behind.

As for what’s going on in the news and the title wave of shit right now? What the actual fuck?

Talk about helplessness…

That’s why I wrote that Linkedin post to try and recenter and get back to focusing on what I can control. This time with an acute focus on the “T” in E.A.T - which is about how you Treat other people.

In the post, I offered one of my “E.A.T” poker chips to anyone who DMed me. I was overwhelmed with DMs and stories of what people were struggling with.

Through all the struggle, there was a glimmer of hope in each one along with genuine gratitude for what I was offering them.

I responded to each DM letting them know I would be shipping out their chip this weekend and the only thing I asked is that they post it on Linkedin (without the need to tag me) with a positive message to pay it forward.

As I read through each DM and packaged up their chip with a little note, the feeling of helplessness started to lift.

I was focusing on what I could control by spreading as much positivity as I could and seeing an immediate impact.

I have more than a few chips left to send out but each one makes me feel a little lighter and in more control, which is why I wanted to write about it and extend the offer to you.

If you’re struggling right now and need a reminder to stay focused on what you can control, DM me your address and your story (only if you want to share it) and I’ll send one out as soon as I can.

My only ask is that when you get it, you go out of your way to spread positivity and post about it with the hashtag #makepositivityhappen. You absolutely do not need to tag or mention me in the post. This is not some thinly veiled attempt for me to get exposure. This is purely aimed at paying it forward.

Post about someone you appreciate or want to recognize. Leave a review on someone’s podcast that you like. Give someone an unsolicited testimonial. Leave a review and “Recommend” someone on Linkedin, subscribe to someone’s YouTube channel so they get more views. Leave a G2 or Google review for a local business you love. Pay for someone’s coffee.

There are so many easy things we can do to spread positivity and lift each other up. We just need to make sure we’re doing them more than ever right now.

I’ll end this newsletter the same way I end all my podcasts:

"Go out there and make someone smile today because no matter how bad you think your day is going or how bad you think it went, if you make someone smile you know you had a good day and the world needs A LOT more of that right now."
